About Us
Animalandia is a non-profit organization located in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico that provides low or no cost pet sterilization services to local residents who may not otherwise be able to afford it. We also offer adoption services for homeless and unwanted dogs.
Our purpose
We seek to improve the quality of life of the animals and people of Loreto, promoting the sterilization of dogs and cats and promoting education about the care of animals.
The mission of Animalandia is to reduce the population of unwanted animals in Loreto through the sterilization and of stray dogs and the pets of people who could not otherwise pay for this service. Animalandia operates a sterilization clinic and with the help of visiting veterinarians and volunteers, we organize clinics in Loreto several times a year.
The potential impact of sterilization is tremendous. In a community the size of Loreto, around 15,000 inhabitants, the work of Animalandia has resulted in a remarkable reduction in the population of street animals, making the streets cleaner and safer and improving the lives of animals.
Education
Community education is tremendously important to help control the population of unwanted animals and to improve the well-being of human residents. In addition, it has been shown to reduce cases of animal abuse.
Adoption
Unfortunately, stray and unwanted dogs are frequently abandoned at our facility. We evaluate each animals health and provide care and sterilization as appropriate. Our goal is to prepare the animal for eventual adoption. We have found loving homes all over the United States and Canada for hundreds of dogs over the years. Many dogs also find new homes with responsible local residents and in such cases we are able to follow up on their ongoing care.
